with quantum tunneling experiments the electron is moved instantly through space, not at a particular speed but instantly. anything traveling faster than light is traveling backward in time, so instantaniouse travel is faster than light and going backward in time? or atleast thats what i was told, think they are experimenting with it at uni's.
i'm still kinda vague on what this has to do with anything paranormal but it's cool so who cares

It's only my opinion, but I believe that ALL phenomena has ties to quantifiable interactions, thus, in time, science will know the workings of things we now deem 'paranormal' and 'supernatural'. Everything from telepathic links, psychokinetic manipulation, astral projection, spiritual echoes/psychic imprints (A.K.A. on this board "ghosts') and even the spirit realm beyond this life will -again, in my belief- be fully understood through the scientific process eventually.

Likewise, many things which have previously been explained as supernatural or the work of 'gods' or 'spirits' have been proven to work by another mechanism through the observant scientific eye.

Apparently an experiment was done by placing an atomic clock in a place travelling around the world, another atomic clock was fixed on the ground. Apparently when the plane landed the clocks where out of sync by something like 0.00000000001 of a second. They say the clocks stayed accurate and time had changed by this minute amount on the plane, Eg. Forward or back in time."

This result was actually caused by time dialation; that is, at great speeds or in great gravity fields, time slows down. As I understand it, time effects are directly proportional to the speed of light, thus if one is travelling at one-half the speed of light, they experience half as much time as a stationary person would (a 3 year trip to the nearest star would only seem to take 1.5 years.) Taken further, if one were capable of achieving light-speed, they wouldn't feel the effects of time at all, and furthermore, where-ever they travelled, they would seem to get there instantaneously; although to an outside observer, the traveller would take many years to reach the nearest extrasolar star to earth.

The same goes for strong gravity wells, if one holds orbit just above the event horizon of a black hole (the point at which escape velocity is equal to the speed of light), they will not age, and could theoretically stay there for what seems like only an instant, then break orbit (assuming their space ship has the power to escape) and find that they've been away for thousands of years, effectively the same as time-travel into the future.

Not Buying it.

If I travel for 6 months at light speed in one direction and travel back for 6 months in the opposite direction. 12 months have passed for me and for earth.
If we up it a notch and I travel at light speed +1, it is exactly the same. I have simply travelled further.
(Its what is observed and measured (ie. light) that gives us the perseption of altered time - obviously if I travel faster than light it would be observed that I had arrived back later - I'd be there but my image would still be catchin up with me (arriving later on).)

Its the Distance OR Dimension we have to change to move through/alter time in my opinion.
Gravity feilds alter the distance travelled by bending out or bending in on the planes of the universe, hence appearing to be quicker or slower depending on which way the gravity has bent. I Think of it as travelling along the exact same road
a) Straight & b) with a hill. Travelling over the hill increases the length of your journey when travelling at the same speed.

I think that A Worm hole is simply a portal from one destination to another, whether that destination is in another time or dimension I couldn't rule out. However I do consider that it cuts out the distance of travel. Like a doorway under the staircase that when opened leads out into a new world. The idea is that a journey that would normally take an unfathomably long time would now seem instantaneous.
Personally Wouldn't consider them specific to time travel.

Don't think speed is the way forward If we wanted to travel through time - I think a time boat is the way forward. Understanding the dimension first we Would need a vessel/a means of descriptions that could travel along the dimension of time.
Or a method of reduction and revival.

I think you may well be right about quantum studd, particle physics and the 'paranormal'. Being an 'antimathematician' myself, I never really got on with nuclear physics ot advanced physical chemistry, but the 'Uncertaintly Principle' seems strangely familiar somehow?

One onservable clue (I have always 'felt') is the uncanny way that the gaps between stars in galxies, galaxies in space, atomic particles and distances in matter, and sub atomic paricles in particles, have very similar ratios... in other words, there's a lot of empty space, and actual matter is squished into very tiny bits compared with the distances between them.

For nearly all practical purposes we are stuck here, steadily plodding into what we call the futureb at exacrly one minute per minute... why that is I have never seen any satisfactory explanation for (or the matter/space ratio). Then, maybe it isn't like that? If time slowed up and went faster, we'd never notice, since the only way of mrasuring its progress id with instrument located in it... which will automatically compensate by default, without us noticing a thing?

Sigh... if only Douglas Adams were here.... he'd know!
