My family have suffered a terrible bereavement. In October last, a friend recommended a medium to me. I went to see her, in the hope of gaining some comfort.

Well! What a sham it was. The medium tried her best to cold-read me and failed. I'm not sceptical, by the way, and wasn't deliberately trying to catch her out - on the contrary, I desperately wanted to hear from my dear deceased - but I soon realised that the medium knew nothing and was hoping I'd fill her in.

When she pronounced that I was a lonely Lesbian sports teacher, I had to stifle a giggle, being newly married to a lovely man.

Funny thing was, at one point we both heard the letterbox clatter and something slide through and hit the floor. I said, is that him now? and laughed. The medium was not amused.

However, when I left, we both looked around for what we'd thought must be a newspaper on the doormat, but there was nothing there. The medium was genuinely puzzled. I believe that my dear departed had popped along to let me know what a fool I was making of myself.

May I suggest you only visit mediums who are recommended to you and then perhaps there will not be the disappointment which you obviously experienced.

HopeLass, I'm really sorry you had such a terrible experience. Unfortunately, it's not an uncommon one, but some 'mediums' are more plausible than others.

I do hope you and your family are managing to come to terms with your loss.

Hi Hopelass sorry to hear about your situation.

Please don't think that all mediums are fradulent simply on the basis that on your visit they were unable to make a connection for you. I understand how dissapointing the experience was for you and how easy it was to come to that conclusion.

Why not visit your local Spiriualist Church. You may get a reading during a service or you can ask to have a read from a Medium associated with that Church.

Always bear in mind though that if the person you want to hear from isn't yet ready to communicate nothing you or anyone else can do is make them.

Please be patient and when they are ready they will make themselves known to you.

You didn't have a good experience at all on that occasion. Sometimes it's best not to go to see a Medium soon after a passing if you still very emotional - you have to go through the grieving process naturally at your own rate and that's a very private and delicate time.

If the Medium couldn't make the link; they should have told you instead of trying to force the message and a real dogs dinner of the whole thing.

That didn't help anyone did it.

Yes; go to someone who is recommended you did the right thing there; but I also advice go with a friend and don't go to a medium who wants payment unless you are sure they're recommended as being very honest and experienced. Better still if you can and they do Divine Services or demonstrations take your time and go to see them at work first.

Sorry this had happened to you. I do hope that she didn't charge you money for that. With a good medium, if there was no connection would have stopped after getting it wrong the first few min. I don't understand why she continued on.

It's a real shame, but there are always people trying to con people out of money within any profession, taking advantage of whatever weeknesses they can to achieve thier goal no matter how much it could upset the person they are ripping off.

I believe however there are genuine Mediums and Psychics out there.

You could become your own Medium / Psychic. Apparantly anyone can learn to be a Medium and/or Psychic with the right information and training. I'm currently reading a number of books on the subject to attempt to increase my own powers. These books however could also be a con, I doubt it but I'll let you know how I get on.
