I'd had recurring "dreams" of a gypsy-type man with horrible greasy hair, rotten teeth and the swarthy skin who would pop out all over the place; in my bed (while my partner slept there), out of the wardrobe, from the space between my bed and the wall (about 18 inches). It used to really terrify me. He'd just appear and say "Its MEEEE" then once I'd pooped myself/screamed he'd laugh like it was some sort of game and disappear. I read about entities that really just get a kick out of scaring the bejesus out of us. He actually was harmless, just an annoying brat. The advice was to tell him to get lost in no uncertain terms. When I went to bed I switched off the light and said aloud and in no uncertain terms that I wasn't afraid of him any more, he was a waste of space and he was to get lost (those might not have been the exact words I used). I havent seen him since. There was one night when my eyes flew open and I saw what was like iron-filings drawing together in the shape of a man but it disappeared as soon as I said "F off". Now on its own - this could just be a dream. BUT

About a year later I visited my Aunt who I'd not seen since I was a kid and lives 500 miles away. She asked if I was "spooky". My heart leapt but I tried not to blink. I asked her what on earth she could possibly mean? She went on to list some of her experiences. Then she said "what about Gypsy Man". The only person who knew about those "dreams" were my partner. I said "Who?". She described him to a T AND what he did. It turned out she'd done the same thing around the same time - told him to get lost and she hadn't seen him for years either. Once I'd owned up to having the same experience, my cousin and my sister quaked in their boots (twas funny). Anyway I dont know who Gypsy man was but he "runs in the family" like being a tad psychic - it turns out. If this story helps you get rid of whom-ever is disturbing your sleep - good O.

The official (scientific) deduction is that what you experienced was night terrors/sleep paralysis. Im sure there's a link somewhere on this forum. It might apply to your experience especially because you didn't see anything. We can be half way between sleeping and being awake. Our minds are awake but our bodies aren't. We feel pinned to the bed - sometimes as if someone is sitting on top of us. Our dreaming mind can fill in the gap as if its trying to find a reason we can't move. Its a scary sensation, so the mind's rationalisation will be scary too and depending on how much cheese you ate (if it triggers migraines then it does affect the brain) - if you're feeling a bit under the weather as well, the scarier your experience will be. It all disappears when we wake properly though.

Dear Maximus,

I went through a spell of those experiences in my late teens and early 20s. I remember the first time it happened and I had to run into my parents' bedroom, i was that petrified.

I woke up in the middle of the night, frozen, there was a buzzy ringing noise in my ears. I could also make out some kind of black shadowy figures scuttling furiously around my room. It was all very real and very disturbing at the time. After that first time it did happen more regularly. I would even see my door open and hazy grey spectres would come in and just stand there gazing at me.

What was mostly frightening was that i had no idea what was going on at the time. However even though the events were very real, part of me instinctually put it down to some kind of sleep disorder. After all they always happened when i woke up in the middle of the night. I since managed to find out about sleep paralysis and the symptoms described matched mine exactly. This all made sense to me and I think having that knowledge was reassuring to me and the experiences seemed to die down after that.

I think if you go down the ghosts and spirits route you will only make yourself more anxious and they will keep happening. Remember that it always seems to be when you wake up suddenly but your body is still asleep. It makes sense that a small part of your brain may still be asleep hence the hallucinations.
I also read that it does tend to happen to people around there teens and early 20s, although no explanation as to why.

There are no indications or symptoms of schziphrenia in this story. I do think we have a responsibility on this forum - to others. Please be careful about suggesting illness when you're not qualified to do so.

Default my experiences

Since i was a little girl wierd stuff has happend. Since i was about 15 I would get those bangs on the walls at around three in the morning and see things move, whispering. I am now 28 and Every place I have lived unexplainable things happen. Everytime I have seen or thought i seen a spirit they seem to be a soft light blue color. Does anyone know why do they appear to be that color, and why do they always come between 2-3 in the morning?? Getting a good nights sleep has always been a problem. I have recently been praying to God and including in prayer to make what ever it is go away and it has been working, i have been able to sleep. My 2 yr old little boy though every so often he tells me about a blue baby that visits during the day, and one time early in the morning and he wanted my husband and i to get him on the wall and then he'd leave when we walk over to the wall where he was at. Then my 5 year old boy use to see things wheen he was smaller and he would get real scared and cry, hide his face in the covers, he would act so wierd. This always happend at night. He hasnt seen anything or acted wierd ever since we had our home blessed by a priest..
