I have enjoyed the discussions on this topic. From the first post, I wanted to point out that the emphasis of the quote is really the egotistical thought we can learn and create something fresh solely on our own. It is being pointed out that the knowledge we learn is already available in the collective knowledge of all. It is not just now being discovered. It was already known. It is just our knowledge of the universal fact that is new or remembered.
And, of course, there is the old saying that anything that can be, has been, and will be again. So, anything we create has already been created. We can not "will" something into being that does not exist or has not existed. I agree with the others before me who state that our destination or path is "roughly" planned out in advance. However, imagine yourself an author. You have a plot determined. You have fleshed out your main characters. You have a vision of the struggle and the climax. However, as you write, new ideas surface. Secondary characters may evolve into main characters. Other struggles surface and must be resolved. The original plot may take many twists and the story, once written, may be vastly different from the original concept. A psychic is "given" a vision for a reason. Is the reason to prepare an individual for an upcoming event or is it a wake up call that is meant as a warning only? Every action causes a reaction. Free will determines if the event is successful and the lesson is learned or if another event must be triggered until the lesson is learned. Then, of course, if that lesson is learned; another one awaits and "free will" is again called into play. "Free will" does not negate psychic ability. Psychic ability is a tool to prompt action, which in this case is "free will." |

well I think Sai Baba's quote reflects the highest level of understanding. We are all living in an illusory world thinking we're the body and have a seperate existence from the Absolute. In our lives attached to the body we may have a will of our won, but when we realize that all is one and one is all, that we never had a separate existence, then the question of will does not arise at all, as we transcend space and time.
