I wasn't saying this is what happened with Sylvia Brown. I just wondered if it could have been. You said you trained as a medium, then you should know that sometimes you just get a vague impression of some things. Could this have happened to her and she just assumed it was Shawn?

Should this kind of information be used to help find the missing? Ask a parent who has tried everything else and thier child is still missing. There are good legetimate mediums out there. They happened to go to one who was not so good. If they had checked into her record they would have known this....GrandmaSue

Well, my own experience was not of any vague impressions, only very clear 'pictures', but obviously I cannot speak to others.

Of course, but not to the parents, and not on television. The only people who should be given potential information are those on the investigating team.

In my opinion there's far too much heartache caused by people who may mean well, but in fact make the situation far worse.

In response to: "Did he know before that point that your son was dead? I'd be really interested to know how you answered it."

When James first started with my reading, he pointed to my section of the room and said "there is someone over in this area that has lost their son, and he is saying that you have two pictures of him in your wallet, and have those same two pictures on your wall at home". I raised my hand, and thats how the reading started. He did not ask me questions; he told ME how my son died, even down to describing the area where the body was found (my son went out into the woods in Alaska), talked about the shotgun that was lying across him when he was found, and I could go on and on. He said my son was very depressed and was showing him "daggers shoved into his heart", which perfectly described how he felt when his wife left him for his own cousin. My son left behind a 4 year old son, and James said "he is talking about his son Joe" (my grandson goes by Joseph, not Joe). Anyhow, I could go on and on, but all I can say is that my own experience with James was spot on; he was accurate from beginning to end, and remember, I didnt just hear what I wanted to hear; my oldest son was with me, and he walked in that door a sceptic, and walked out with tears pouring down his face from what he had just experienced.

Thank you,

Sandy

Hi Sandy,

Thank you for sharing that with me. I can understand why you believe James Van Praagh is genuine after reading that.

All the best

It is kinda funny how one case...or a few can seemingly erase all the good work thats been done. I think calling someone a "fake" is a bit drastic...dont you think? Wrong in their perceptions perhaps... we all tend to get things wrong once in a while. If we are passing judgements here...perhaps we should judge the intent... anyone care to take a crack at that?

But how can we judge someone's intent? We can only judge facts, and where Sylvia Browne is concerned, the facts don't add up to her being a genuine psychic/medium.

I agree there is less evidence regarding James Van Praagh, but I have never studied either of them in any depth.

Perhaps we shouldnt be making judgements at all then...ya think? The words "judge not lest ye be judged" spring to mind.

OK - you used the word 'judgement' first, but I'll quite happily change it to 'evaluate'.

So, how can we evaluate someone's intent? We can only evaluate facts, and where Sylvia Browne is concerned, the facts don't add up to her being a genuine psychic/medium.

Speaking more generally now, if an individual is found to have lied/cheated on one occasion in order to gain fame or money, it is highly likely that it is not the only time.

Trust is hard won, and destroyed quickly.

I see..so being wrong is not allowed...fair enuff, you've set the terms, I hope you can live by them. That she lied or cheated in order to gain fame and money, is saying you do know her intent, which you have already admitted that you can't possibly know.

Sylvia Browne is well respected among some and well hated among others. No one on this earth will be liked by everyone, this is a personal choice. And while I am not a fan of her "tv personna" I do know that she is the founder of a church which follows Gnosticism, of which I am. The material she has channeled by way of her Guides contains much truth that resonates for many. This church btw is non profit...meaning none of her ministers recieve pay.
