Let me start off by saying I am a completely normal 30yr old married Father of 2. I work out, hunt, fish, etc...Pretty normal life.
About 2-3 years ago I started experiencing what I have read is sleep paralysis. Every few weeks or so I would kind of come out of a sleep and couldnt move for a few seconds. About 6 months ago things started getting really weird. During the paralysis... I started to get feelings that someone was there with me. Not like a ghost or something, but like someone had broken into my house. I would come to ...and nobody was there. Also...Sometimes when I came to as normal, I would move my arm a little or shift my body. Then I would wake up and notice that my arm or my body was not in the position I had just moved it to. Things slowly started to progress. I would fall off the couch or the bed, but when I fully came to...I was still on the couch. There was one night that I fell asleep on the couch, and I crawled off to the floor. I could hear and see my kids and wife in the other room. I was rolling around on the floor, trying to wake myself up. When I finally snapped out of it...I was still on the couch!!! The reason I am here, is one incident in particular. I was on the couch sleeping about 2 am. I remember getting the paralysis, and suddenly became extremely frightened. More so than usual. I woke up (at least I think I was awake), and I was shaking and clutching my arms. THERE WAS A LITTLE GIRL LYING NEXT TO ME ON THE COUCH! She was laying behind me, and rubbing my left arm and shoulder. I remember she was smiling. She kept saying "Shhhh...it's ok. Everything is Ok. It's ok. Go back to sleep." The weird thing is I have never felt so safe in my life. I just went right back to sleep. And ever since, the sleep paraylisis and out of body experiences have subsided for the most part. WHY? Why her? The eerie thing is I remember her so well, and I cant think of anyone that has ever been in my life who resembles her. To this day when I think of her my eyes well up. There was just something special about her. I don't know how I know this. But her age....she was 7...possibly 6, but more than likely 7 is burned into my mind. She had shoulder length curly hair, and was wearing a long nightgown with long sleeves. Maybe the type kids wore years and years ago. Kind of resembled a small angel. She was so confident and made me feel so safe. I'm just obsessed with this. Who was she? Whoever she is I feel a love for her...why? Can anyone explain this to me? Similar experiences? I've read about the out of body and sleep paralysis stuff. but the girl. I am just dumbfonded?!?!? |

I've have something similar to that, but much more terrifying. I snapped out of a lucid dream and woke up in an almost OBE state; everything in my room had a purple glow to it, but I was laying down and could not move at all. I had this feeling of being surrounded, and then I saw a figure next to me but couldn't see it's face as I couldn't even move my eyes, and I felt that it wanted to hurt me and it laughed. I was so terrifed I kept telling myself to wake up and I could not go back to sleep that night.

It is not uncommon for people to 'imagine' people up in sleep paralysis. I would suggest you both read up on the phenomena associated with Sleep Paralysis to get a better understanding of it. Tesia - your's in particularly sounds classic of SP in my opinion.

Many people have been through this. I have also and it seems to be linked to getting back into phase with your physical body after your consciousness has been out and about in your etheric body. It is scary but not much to worry about, after a short period of time you get full control of your body again. But during the time period when you are confused as to what is going on and you have no control can be quit a strange experience, and your mind can be scared, or make up some strange stuff, or not. Your consciousness is energy, and you have several energy bodies. The physical body is also and energy body, it is just the slowest vibrating one. If you are having an O.B.E. your consciousness is in one of the etheric energy bodies and not so much in the physical one at that time. When you are coming back into your physical body after a OBE I think for a short phase you can get one of the following options, 1) consciousness makes it part way back into the physical body and is processing things it sees from the etheric body while it tries to react and move the physical body, but the physical body can't respond because not all of your consciousness is present and in control of the physical. This can create a lot of confusion also if you have no recollection of your recent OBE. You may see your spirit guide standing by, you may see a visitor, but you will be at a loss of who that person is or why they are there. 2). you make get a since of a dark entity trying to get into your body, maybe on top of you, or you seemingly standing by while watching that dark entity trying to merge with your body. As absolutely strange as it may sound, it is most likely .... You, sensing You, trying to get into You. Seeing another entity, or thinking you are seeing another entity while you can not move is to put it vary mildly. frightening. You feel like you can do nothing and you think somehow you might be in real danger. Well that is one of the things your spirit guide is for, that is protecting and watching over your well being while you are out and about out of the body, so you are being cared for.
If you are worried and you don't want to have this anymore you may ask God to not let you astral travel any more. This experience is perhaps the biggest reason people stop wanting to have OBE's because they may catch some of the disorientation while trying to get back into their own body. There can also be loud noises, Buzzing, vibrations, and things that just don't seem normal. But then we are not accustom to thinking of ourselves as energy. calming down and relaxing is a big part of sticking with OBE. You can ask help with your spirit guide, meet your spirit guide, ask questions of your spirit guide, learn that little girls name and who she is, you can study science, seeks some truths, maybe even get invited to see something from even higher plans. There is a lot of infinity out there. |

I've experienced the same thing! The first time I ever had an OBE I forced myself back to my body because I thought I heard my mum calling me (which was absurd because I was in India at the time) and I got stuck half in my body and half out of it and experience sleep paralysis for the first time. I was trying to scream because I was terrified and I saw a figure hunch over me and I thought it was my brother, I remember asking the person to help me and to hold my hand because I was scared and I physically felt them squeeze my hand and comfort me. As I eased back into my body I felt the firm grip turn to air, it was really strange.
I've often felt this comforting figure over me after an OBE / AP and I've even felt them hold me when I call them if I'm having a bad projection. Again, I don't know if it's all in my head, but it feels very real |

Whilst akkayakr is right about the paralysing sensation that can sometimes accompany a return to body, it should be noted Sleep Paralysis can occur prior to obe's, (those who are conscious prior to projection will be aware of this.)
Sleep Paralysis also can and does occur independant of there being any obe/ap occuring at all (again - if conscious the entire time you can pass through this knowing you have not gone anywhere) so people should not presume because they experience Sleep Paralysis that they have actually gone or are about to go oob. It may just be a stand alone event. Just wanted to clarify for those people afraid of SP and afraid of obe's, lest they end up more afraid because they presume one occuring automatically means the other has or will - coz that is not neccessarily the case any way you want to look at it. Basically if you're not aware of it happening,(obe) ...then don't worry about it coz there is nothing to catagorically say it even has or will. Nat xxx

I also agree that Sleep paralysis often occurs just before an Out of Body Experience, it seems occur when your Astral Body (or Spirit Body) isn't quite realigned with your physcial body. It's thought that your Astral Body drifts away from your physical body natually when you sleep. It's not dangerous in any way, I know it's hard, but try to remian calm if it happens again. Everyone always comes out of it eventually. One way to get out of it is to start moving the ends of your fingers slightly, then your hands, then arms until you regain complete control.
Its also possible you could have been picking up on a spirit within your room. You can become aware of spirits in the Astral Plane while your Astral Body is away from the physical (a few people are aware of spirits anyway). Don't be frightened as it's extremely unlikely it wants to harm you, it could even be a spirit guide or a lost friend or relative trying to make contact. It seems the young girl was sent to help you. On a few occasions I've felt someones hand against my face while meditating trying to Astral Project, it felt very real and I believe it was real, Eg. A spirit (Doctors however wouldn't agree, they would say this is an hallucination, but they don't know what causes sleep paralysis, even they say it's some kind of temporary disconnection between your brain and your body). I however experienced sleep paralysis while attempting to have my first conscoius out of body experience. I was on the edge of meditation and sleep, which I was trying to avoid. I became aware that I couldn't move. As I had already read much on this subject and I knew I was in no danger, I remained calm. I went to move my arm, but had a wierd sensation. It felt like I my arm was paralysed, yet I could also feel my hand against the wall. I felt the wall, then pushed against it. After pressing, it went through. I opened my eyes and realised my physcial hands hadn't moved from my side. I believe this was a partial Astral Projection, where its documentated that you feel both you physcial body and your astral body at the same time. Note: Also remember that all your bodies automated functions (Eg. Breathing) always continue unaffected by Sleep Paralysis and indeed Astral Projection. |

Hi,
I have been experiencing this phenomenom for around 9 years now, sometimes it happens frequently and then sometimes I dont have it for months! Someone once told me that it is a 'trapped' spirit coming through who cant make it to the light. They told me to say in my mind: 'go to the light', which I have done and the paralysis seems to then subside. When I do feel paralysed, I am usually quite frightened and try to wriggle my body out of it. Also im not sure if anyone else experiences this, but I often hear what seems to be the noise of an engine running or sometimes like echoes or the sound of horses trotting! Its really wierd. My skeptic friend told me that it is just my body shut down while my mind is still active! :? Does anyone else hear any noise whilst paralysed?

I used to have lots of OOBEs when I was a child. I didn't know what the heck was happening - one minute I'd be lying down watching tv or reading and the next thing I'd be vibrating and shaking on the inside (and this was a very intense sensation) and I'd shoot off across the road or into someone's living room! This would happen wile other people were awake in the room with me! As I got older I managed to control the vibrating/shaking, best described as if I were a Russian doll and some of the inner dolls were shaking and vibrating, and eventually stop it altogether. I completely forgot all about it and apart from being mildly curious I never found the episodes particularly scary.
In my mid-20s it appeared to start all over again although I had absolutely no control. I had lots of morning memories of floating, walking through walls and windows, flying and hovering but that was about it so I wasn't 100% sure they weren't just dreams. I started to have very vivid lucid dreams and extremely apocalyptic horror dreams - very physical and violent involving me dying in various ways (some of which have happened ie 2004 tsunami, 9/11). Then for some reason I began to get sleep paralysis, although I had no understanding what it actually was for many years. It bore no similarity to my previous dream or oobe experiences and I had some absolutely terrifying experiences, such as being dragged out of my body by incredibly evil entities who threatened all sorts and always spoke with the same terrifying voice. These people were to be avoided at all cost! I had 'alien visitation' type experiences and even woke up with blood-test type needle marks in my veins and behind my ears (still get them behind my ears!). The paralysis usually started with a buzzing in my ears. This would then intensify until I felt as if my whole head was vibrating, including my teeth (very uncomfortable) and the noise would eventually turn into what sounded like a pneumatic drill in my head - very loud and very annoying. I'd be completely paralysed and would try and wake my husband to no avail. I couldn't shout or talk or scream. Sometimes I'd feel like I was having an electric shock. At some point I'd either lose consciousness or I'd manage to start moving a finger or toe or I'd be able to make a quiet noise. From then on recovery would be very quick but I'd be absolutely terrified and unable to sleep for some time (as it would usually start all over again). I'd be physically exhausted. If I didn't recover and 'lost consciousness' my memories on awakening would be of floating uncontrollably like a leaf to the floor. I'd be unable to control my vision so everything would be distorted and blurred. I couldn't focus on anything and if I tried to 'will' myself forward I'd go too far or veer off in another direction. Hearing was distorted also. It was very disorientating and on awakening, again I'd be physically and mentally exhausted as if I'd run a marathon. It got to the stage where I said "enough" to whomever might be able to have a hand in this and it did seem to ease off. I get sleep paralysis now occasionally but noticed that if I don't lie on my back I don't get it, so I tend to sleep on my side or belly instead. I tried to bring on an oobe over the Christmas holiday by deliberately lying on my back early morning and managed to get a good lucid dream without the usual horror (except for the noise which this time sounded like a helicopter in my head) of sleep paralysis. But the only downer was being shown a vision of a nuclear explosion - "it has to be done to stop it spreading" was the message I was given. Bah, haven't had one of those in a long time but seeing as I didn't actually die in this one I'm hoping this one doesn't come to pass.
