I came here looking for some insight about a scary situation. Ever since my mother passed away in late December we've experience some very strange phenomenon at home that appear to be escalating. Our usually calm cat stares at things we cannot see. His gaze remains on it then it seems to move. When we block his view he moves to look around us. His eyes are very wide and he is stock still. When he follows us to another room, and he is much more clingy, he diligently watches the door until he finally falls asleep, exhausted. We definitely hear new noises, which startle him, and now all normal noises are startling him, too.

We installed the EMF meter on my iPod Touch, and while we understand that it may not be very accurate, we're picking up the highest possible readings in areas and then these stop, as if whatever it is has moved. One of these spots was directly over my mother's papers (license, bank statements, titles, etc.) Often they are in a corner when we're trying to chase it around a room. Our cat sometimes looks up but more often at his level on the back of the couch or or down, as if it were an animal. It is often (according to our cat) on the main stairway, which provides a view of where we spend most of our time. On the morning Mom passed, before we got the phone call, my husband was awakened while on the couch by a very loud thump, as if someone had landed on the other side of the ceiling near the fireplace. He told me about it before we learned that Mom had passed in the hour window of this strange phenomenon.

I should mention that we're learning disturbing things about Mom's last hours involving my brother, who lived a few yards away from Mom. In addition to other alarming things that would really upset her but that she had seen before, he may have told her a lie about me that would hurt her terribly to cover up for himself. We're investigating all of this and will know more within a couple of weeks.

I'm sorry this is so long but these details seem relevant.

A few basic things to know.

First, animals are usually sensitive to the paranormal. Cats and birds are usually the first to sense things. Tho my hamster does a bang up job too It was part of the reason cats were considered divine in egypt.

Second, I would say 9 out of 10 ancestral spirits tend to hang around to protect us. Quite a few native american indian tribes believe in this principle.

Third, once one "dies" The restrictions on perception is usually shed. Its part of why mediumship works. Spirits usually know the score. Problem is contacting the one you want. My father tends to hang near me a lot.

The last issue is your brother. If things are as you stated, then your mother probably sensed the danger and is hanging around to make sure you are safe. Most likely things will settle down once that matter is closed.

The poor cat just needs reassurance. Like any other soul that senses things beyond the norm, it is a little freaked out.

This is VERY reassuring, thank you! I wonder if you could clarify three follow-up questions. When I pet our cat he can tell right away when I'm consciously giving him energy as opposed to going through the motions in distraction, etc. How come he does not feel this as benevolent? I guess he's not terrified, as in running and hiding, but he's nervous, definitely.

How come she makes little, apparently random noises instead of doing something more meaningful? We take this as trying to scare us. I'm trying to feel her and have talked to her and, while I'm considered highly sensitive in my circle, I'm not getting much here, though your intimation helps me get closer. Finally, how come she seems to change shapes (up on the ceiling, down on the floor, chest level, etc,. unlike more traditional apparitions with human outlines?

Now that explains a lot of what is going on. Most tribe believe their ancestors remain and protect the tribe. This seems to be exactly what has happened here. I would recommend contacting your tribe and connecting with the shamans and/or council. Let the tribe help you. Most will.

The sounds the cat is making is most likely directed at the spirits and not your family. He most likely had met your mother so for her the cat would probably start purring

The pets of shamans and psychics tend to tune into the person's aura. Some more adept animals may be flatout psionic. I know my hamster is which is odd.

The other options are a taoist monk or a spiritualist church. I'm a practicioner of Ba Gua Chang. It is why I'm sensitive to different energies.

Gonna repeat an old blackfoot tale about ancestral protection. Basically a kid was being bothered by a spirit. Family didn't believe him so he turned to his grandfather. The GF took him to the war shaman. Shaman basically put his arm around the kid and told the spirit, "ya see that mesa over there? That's the last 10,000 years of our tribal ancestors. They wish to talk to you about your claim about this child......". The family went home and the spirit was dragged to the burial grounds :P

It may be even more interesting, might NOT be my Mom. With the EMF meter I stood in the sunshine and asked questions. If you're here to protect us come to my left, mad at us to my right, and neither behind me. It came behind me. If you're mom come in front, it didn't, message from mom didn't. Male didn't. Know Mom didn't. Ever met you didn't. Female right away. Family right away. Immediately I jumped to our Iroquois ancestor and it went off the chart.

I've been searching for her genealogically for three years, finding very little. I just wanted to KNOW her. But why now? Why would she come now?

Yep. Sounds to me like one of your tribal ancestors came for a visit. Most likely it sensed a danger and stepped in. I would definately contact your tribe so they can speak to him/her. With your tribe the females were shamans as well.

I'm sure your mom is floating around too I really feel sorry for the spirit that was upsetting youcat ....having to deal with the spirit of a shaman to get to you. Talk about your brickwalls :P

The sounds your hearing would most likely be the tribal chats if you learned iroquois language. Like I told you, the ancestors protect us.

I think dreamcatchers are in order here
Make them out of birch or willow wood.
Use deer fur on the ring. The string should me a natural fiber and not synthetic. The feathers should be from a rooster. All these parts can be bought at a bait & tackle store that sells fly tying gear. Make it yourself though as it is much stronger when your thoughts went into making it.

In case you can't tell from my screenname. part of my heritage is native american as well.
Here are some of the tribes i have explored. Personally I'm part blackfoot. When you contact them specifically ask for the shamans. Don't tell your story until your standing in front of a shaman. Not all modern indians believe in the traditional ways sadly. The shamans and council usually do. I know these tribes do. Especially the Hopi.

I'm sorry, intp, I realize you quiet like the answer you have been given, but I can not agree with suggestions of danger - there is no evidence of that at all! I am scratching my head at what possesses people to take relatively minor situations and paint them out to be bad. Leave's me clueless everytime! I advise you ignore it.

Thanks for your response. I would like any answer at this point, seeing forums as a brainstorming space where we can synthesize all available experiences. Do I understand correctly that you do not think there is likely danger or that there is. I didn't get the impression that windigo thinks there is danger, rather more of a protective thing going on. Or maybe you think I should be more aware of the possibility of danger?

Remember in Northern Exposure when Ed was visited by an ancestral spirit? He followed it around and listened to what it came to teach him. I don't want to use sage or tobacco or even a shaman, really. I feel like I need to listen and re-tune to a sensitivity I let go of to fit in to polite society. or something like that. The parts I have trouble with is how it seems to fly around, high and low, and short when low, and why it's making tiny noises all around the house. It's not speaking but kind of knocking on things. The other evening, though, while leaving the living room for the kitchen there was a sound very much like picking up the large ice cream bowl with a spoon in on a table and dropping it down. That got my attention. It seems to not like the EMF meter. I asked it if it is shy and the EMF went way up, the same for if it wanted me to turn it off.

It had been flying around in the ceiling above the shower/tub in my bathroom while I was using it. My cat was on the vanity watching it back and forth. he never did anything remotely like that before. When I started the shower flowing it seemed to leave and the cat went on the bed, staring at the bedroom door. He's vigilant about every sound, and we're now covering him completely with a blanket so he will sleep for awhile.

Again, any ideas are most welcome!
