Default few things that help me

not all meditation is sitting on the floor or laying about, try going for a nice long walk and let your mind wonder, walking for 1hr really frees up the mind and lets the body do something, people spend to much time kicking about the house these days as it is and nature is just waiting outside to talk with you.
try a few meditation games, there are some things you can do when meditating even on your own, when your ready to do a path working you will know, when your ready to enter a deep trance you will feel like it, otherwise try exploring other senses, place a stone in your hand and while meditating feel yourself enter it, or it enter you. try entering your mind and setting up an office type area where you can hold chats with people from history that you admire they may have useful tips on daily problems.
if your body is distracting you it's cause it wants you to focus on something else, it feels your waistting your time, try letting yourself enter the part of your body that is having a problem, imagine small u's in there and have a chat with them, put them in there place if you have to and let them know that the body may be a joint effort but your in charge!
wow just read over my own stuff, man am i nuts ;)
i really hate that little button on the bottom of the screen that says Submit if it wasn't so demanding i'd click on Preview just to rebel >:-/

I quite agree with what you have said, oktor. I find if I go out for a good long walk in the country or along a beach,my mind relaxes and I feel peaceful. After all,I was standing in the garden,my mind roaming, when I heard hubby's voice.

Wolfie, There are different reason as we see here for meditation with different goals.
some use meditation to develop chakrams, some to encourage experiences, some to relax and still the mind, some to cleans the negative energies, and some to seek enlightenment and connect with the inner self. For all of the these different goals there may be a better choice option for you that someone can share if you would not mind stating your desire.

The music idea can help you relax some with the right kind of music but is for helping you sense and feel things, it is a bit like watching your subconscious TV, but it can be revealing. It will be useful for quieting your mind and body some but not for controlling it much. laying down is great for this for me.

Stilling your mind by focusing on breathing can build control of the mind but you will be fighting boredom and risk falling a sleep. Sitting up straight is useful for this with feet flat on the floor.

Kryia Yoga meditation is about going inwards but is vary controlled, and is designed to keep you on track of cleansing and working on your chakrams by tuning them to tones and light, and feelings that are vary specific to reach a self realization. It is vary active and takes focus and you will likely remain quite alert. So if you keep this up you will sense your own nature in pure spirit and oneness with everything, this is not a technique for psychic explorations, it's goal is to cleans your karma to reduce your stay in the karmic cycle of birth and death. This is not to say you would not get psychic perceptions in time, I think you would as it is probably the best over all way to cleansing and opening up the chakrams in a safe manor.

good luck and enjoy.

How about trying this "reverse meditation technique"?

Many people have problems meditating and this is an alternative technique which could be useful

Lightbulb Meditation

Hi, I don't know what sort of meditation you are doing, but have you tried guided meditation techniques? I have posted a relaxation, visualisation and meditation technique on my blog, it's title is 'A Meditation technique'. Give it a go, see what you think.
Peace and Light, Satsang

Hi guy's

In early stages of meditation It can seem hard going - It is a process of letting go of the mundane thoughts & the conditioning of the mind. At first I was even questioning if I was meditating correctly lol

Persevering is the key for there will be a point in time whilst practicing when you will connect with your self & believe me there is nothing boring with that experience.
