Default I lived in a Haunted House.

Hi, This is my first post, am loving the site.

Everytime I tell my story people look at me like I am bonkers... Hopefully people on here will believe me! And apologies, but this is a LONG one.

I moved in to a house built in the 70's in a new area in Milton Keynes called Heelands when I was aged 6. (In 1983.)

For the first few years nothing happened and I had the biggest room and my little brother the smallest.

Whilst still in the biggest room at the age of about 9 or 10 it all started.. when I lay in bed at night I would hear whispering, it was few voices and they were whispering ovber the top of each other, talking fast and I could not make out what they were saying. The whispering got louder and faster and more voices joined in until it was just this cacophony of voices and I shouted at them to stop at which point it would.. very abruptly. It was definitely something I HEARD and not in my mind.

A year or so later my Mum thought it was fair that my brother and I swapped rooms so he had the big room for a few years. I moved in to the small room and bearing in mind that it was a third of the size of my previous room and on the wall that linked with the house next door, it was bitterly cold, the coldness hit you as soon as you walked it.

The room also had a really horrible. oppresive atmosphere and as a result I rarely spent time in there like I did in my old bedroom. It always felt like I was being watched in there and when I was in there I'd turn my back for a moment, turn round again and my possessions had been moved from one place to another within the room. Sometimes things would go missing for days then appear again in weird places. The strangest thing to move was an item of clothing that I had, I had it on a coathanger, hooked on to the outside of my wardrobe door, then the door closed on it, so if I wanted to get this garment I'd have to open the wardrobe to unhook it from the door. Anyway, one day I turned my back for a few moments, turned back again and my garment was hanging from the top part of my wardrobe and around the the side of it. If someone had snuck in and moved it whilst my back was turned I would have heard them open the wardrobe door. Fingerprints used to appear in black on the ceilineg directly above where I lay my head, one handprint has six fingers too!

I eventually confided in a close friend called Kellie who lived two streets away and she was in shock as she too was having paranormal experiences in her own house, similar to mine, she sensed that her spirit was a man and she had her own name for him and when he was playing up she shouted at him to stop, but he wouldn't always... Like mine her presence didn't feel like a friendly one either. When she had a bath she could always hear him shuffling his feet outside the bathroom door, which really freaked her out.

Kellie, unlike me, confided in her parents, who as it turned out had noticed activity too and not said anything for fear of scaring Kellie who was the same age as me. As it was now out in the open they called a medium in who said that the spirit was a monk and not a good one at that. She wasn't able to get rid of him though.

When I was 15 my family moved out of the house, and a couple of years after that, I was watching TV with my Mum and brother when a programme about spirits came on and my brother blurted out "Look Mum, wonder if there's any on there like the one we had?" My Mum shot him a look as if to say "Be quiet!" I asked what they were talking about.. Turned out that my Mum used to get the feeling she was being watched and on a couple of occassions looked over her shoulder to see a tall shadow sweep by. Then my brother saw a hooded figure (Like a monk?) at the top of the stairs (Next to the small bedroom.) and being younger he'd told my Mum... They then decided not to tell me for fear of scaring me! That night I told them all of my experiences.

Years and years later I was in a group of freinds and friends of those friends who I had not met before were there too... Somehow the conversation turned to spirits and one of the girls who I had not met before went on to say that she lived in a house haunted by a nice monk when she was younger, this was before I'd told my story and none of those people knew my story beforehand as I didn't exactly shout it from the rooftops! I asked where she lived, she lived in Heelands where my friend Kellie and I used to live.. She did live a fair few streets away, but it was uncanny nonetheless.

I later discovered that it's believed that Monks did have some sort of link with Heelands, whether some resided there or not I do not know, but it makes sense as Heelands is less than half a mile from Bradwell Abbey which was founded in 1134 and is still standing to this day.

Strange thing is, I now live even closer to Bradwell Abbey in Bradwell Village, about 1/4 of a mile away, again the house was built in the 70's... Although I was wary about being close to the Abbey, this house feels fine. (Touch wood!)

And even though my house in Heelands was modern and haunted, I now don't like staying in old buildings as I feel that they are more likely to be haunted and it freaks me out.

Saying that tho, another friend of mine lost her Grandmother and her parents inherited the 800 year old cottage in Kent, she invited me and my husband to stay there, reluctantly I agreed as her parents always throw great parties! I was freaking out at the prospect of staying somewhere so old. Yet, as soon as I stepped in to this huge cottage I felt a presence yet it was so warm, enveloping and comforting. I felt so safe and welcome.. It should have been draughty and cold but it wasn't.. I was so amazed!

Anyway, that's me..... Any thoughts or comments on my story???

Sorry it was so long!

Default A possibly haunted NEW office building

I work in county government here in sunny south Florida. I have held my job for many years. About three years ago we moved into a brand new, freshly constructed facility nestled into a wooded area deep into a newly created county parkland. As far back as anyone can remember, this area was densely populated with palms, pine trees, and thickets of ground shurbs. It was also heavily populated with poisonous snakes, scorpions, and vermon. In all, not a particularly hospitable place for a human. It is this fact that makes this whole account so strange. Even though it would appear that this office facility is the first "human interference" in the area, I am beginning to believe that my office building is haunted!
One day just a few weeks after we moved in, I was asked to put in some overtime on a large design project. I was working entirely alone in the building at my computer around sundown when suddenly I kept noticing out of the corner of my eye a shadow that seemed to be "peeking" around the corner of my cubicle opening. I figured that it was nothing more than stress on my eyes from viewing a computer screen and I kept working. Then I heard a man's voice mumbling just down the hallway. I decided to take a break, stretch my legs, and go have a chat with who ever it was that had returned to the office.
As I walked about, I no longer heard anyone speaking, in fact, I couldn't find anyone in the building. So I went back to my desk and started back to work. Within minutes, the air in my cubicle became bone chillingly cold and I felt as though I wasn't alone. I have had a number of unusal paranormal type experiences in my life and this was the first time that I felt uneasy and anxious when sensing a presence. I almost felt a sense of panic! I decided to shutdown my computer and leave the building quickly. As I walked briskly down the hallway, I looked back over my shoulder a couple of times and felt great relief opon exiting the building. I told no one of the incident and I eventually passed it off as merely my imagination. Afterall, it was a new building and new buildings don't have ghosts - right?
Well, several weeks later I found myself back at my desk at sundown and within about a half an hour I heard a muffled conversation down the hall. I walked down the hall to see who it was and pause from my work for some quick bantering.
Again, there was no one there! I was alone in the building! I decided I didn't want to deal wth this again and I went home immediately! Despite the fact that I am sensitive to these type of things, I always try to find a rational explanation. In this case, I decided to just let it go. Then a few months later, I overheard a woman that works down the hall mention to a trusted coworker that she "kept hearing voices in the building when she was working overtime the other night". She went on to say that she suddenly became cold and felt very uncomfortable and exited the building! Still I kept quiet, but I felt personally vindicated. I now knew it wasn't all in my mind. But as the weeks passed, I put it all behind me.
Then this morning, a Monday morning, a coworker who was working here over the weekend told several us that his sister was acting whacky on Saturday afternoon. He said that she accompanied him to the office and when she walked down the hall to support services (where they copy and bind documents) to grab some prints for him, she heard the sound of several drawers opening and closing and ran out of the room!
While I do experience odd occurences from time to time, I am not "tuned in" strongly enough to investigate this building. I would love to have a genuine medium or sensitive walk through this building one evening. I am convinced there is one or more presences here. My leading suspicions is that we are dealing with the spirit(s) of a Seminole Indian or perhaps a turn of the century trapper. I feel this becuase this area was previously undisturbed. That's all I have on this subject for now. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks for listening,
Matt in South Florida

I have been seeing things since I was 15, Like shadowy figures& things moving on their own.. One time we livedin a house that used to be my uncles church. I was laying in bed one night & my bed started shaking, when I looked to see what was shaking the bed, I saw a huge black shadow to the right of my bed. I got out of that room SO fast & never slept in there again... luckily we moved out of there about 2 weeks later. I still see the shadows everywhere I go, but have learned not to be so afraid of them anymore.

hi,
i used to live in a very strange house. It wasnt particularly old, and no one died there that i know of but both me and my sister (from a very young age) would experience things. My sister's bed used to be beside the window and she always used to look out every night to wave to the man in the big black hat! My mum would see him outside our house all the time too, although we never knew who he was (my mum was never a believer, but couldnt explain the man, and he never came into the house, was always outside.)
Our bathroom and toilet were separated by a wall and if one of us was in the toilet, the other would go and knock on the wall while they were waiting - on several occasions i would be knocking on the wall only to discover that no one had been in the bathroom even though someone had been knocking in reply (a visiting friend also experienced this!)
We would regularly hear footsteps above our room (which would be in the attic) and would call out asking it to stop because we couldnt sleep and it would stop immediately. Our wardrobe doors would rattle, curtains would move slightly on their own and once my bed shook so violently both my sister and myself ran downstairs in complete terror! We both experienced these things together so i know they werent in my mind and often visitors would also see/feel/experience things as well. Im not sure it was just the house - more the area we lived in.
The village was very active in a number of places, its a very old place just on the edge of exmoor with lots of burial mounds/forts around. Lots of people from all over the village would see figures appear and disappear, and get heavy feelings whilst driving through certain roads. I wonder if the area is on some sort of underground energy/leyline route or something as it was really common there. I lived in two different houses at each end of the village, and each were as active as the other. The whole village has a kind of magnetic/static feel - almost to the point where u can feel ur hair standing on end! Having said that, its not a horrible feeling and i do feel that most of the sightings are "proper ghosts" (that u cant interract with) and the other half i feel was my own developing psychic abilities..
but who knows...!! :?:

Default Ghost dog

Being a dog lover I suppose it was inevitable that our house would be haunted by a dog. My husband and myself were working on our cottage one day when a small brown and white dog rushed past us and disappeared.
"Did you see that dog?" my husband exclaimed. We both went to look in the room where the dog had apparently gone but we could find no trace.
Our little ghost dog made several appearances after that. Sometimes it would whine and quite often it frightened our small black dog who was still very much alive. After a while the dog became a bit of a nuisance. I'd open the back door to let our dog come in from the garden, only to find that she'd been in another room all the time and it was the ghost dog asking to come in. At other times our dog was too scared to eat her food and would bolt into the garden. You can't explain to a dog that it's just a ghost and it means no harm.
When I started to grumble about the ghost dog the appearances became less and less and soon we stopped seeing it altogether. It was a relief in some ways but I did feel a bit guilty that I've driven the dog away.
