Might anyone point to scientfically peer reviewed papers reguarding astrology? Instead of reading why astrology works from astrologers, I'm more interested in a scientifically researched premise as to why astrology works. I don't know how it does, but I certainly know it works! So, it'd be great to get an explaination founded upon scientific principals. Thanks

I believe astrology works, but not how or why most believers do. Just like magazine personality quizzes, tarot, numerology, palmistry, and other forms of divination, I believe astrology causes the thinking individual to more closely examine their traits and circumstances; hopefully guiding them to a path of greater enlightenment and happiness. For the blind believer, however, astrology and other divinations only cause harm and stagnates personal growth by promoting a sense of helplessness, futility, and fatalism; strengthening their personal expectations of rewards falling into their laps with little-to-no effort of their own.
It's easy for a list of generalities to be given and have many statements vaguely represent the customer (you're feeling stressed about money, you're having a relationship crisis, you're planning to travel in the near future), and the willing believer will often personify that vague information, amplify and expound upon it mentally, and praise the wondrous insight of the reader; but in my experience, the readings and charts are really no more accurate or insightful than a cold reading. I've personally seen no compelling evidence for the accuracy of any ritualized divination, but that doesn't mean I'm not open to the possibility. I, like several other posters in this thread, seek a true scientific explanation for divination and other metaphysical and paranormal phenomena. I acknowledge finding peer-reviewed double-blind studies is unlikely in any metaphysical field, but if anyone with an actual grasp of scientific concepts could thoroughly and articulately describe their theories or experiences, that would be appreciated. On a side note: if astrology works and is truly based on the positions of planets and stars relative to earth; why don't more astrologers use the sidereal chart (which is actually based on the true physical positions of the heavenly bodies) instead of the currently popular tropical chart (which hasn't represented the true locations of the planets for nearly 3,000 years and grows more out-of-sync every day)? |
