people making a point of saying they dreamt in color always intrigues me. I really don't get why anyone would dream in anything else. We live in a colored world, we see in color, imagine in color, 99% of TV is in color, ... it seems strange to me that anyone would dream in black and white, .... tho it has happened to me once with the exception of there being red and green in it, and to me that dream stands out many years later as being the noteworthy one.

Hi there third eye

Not totally sure what Eastman colour is so can't comment on that. I find that I generally just dream, so don't notice if it's in colour or not.... guess I assume it is as I'm a very visual and creative person. I find that I do this whole Technicolor thing sometimes though, which is distinctly different from regular dreams.

Did you ever see the film 'What dreams may come' ? The magnificent vibrant, clean, pure colour in that film is what I experience sometimes. It's such a huge experience when it happens that it stays with me for weeks. The colour spectrum is so wide in comparison to what we experience in life that I couldn't name them as red, blue, green etc. Probably sounds odd but there just isn't words here to describe the intensity of colour.

The first time it happened, when I was in my early 20's, I thought I had visited the spirit world though I expect there's a rational explanation for it.

Bright Blessings

@ nat
true nat when you say that we live in a colored world, but then dreams are a different realm aren't they....almost ethereal...??
if it was the same as the world which we experience in our daily lives, we'd be dreaming in color everynight don't you think?
and most of the times we can't remember whether our dreams were in color or not when we wake up in the mornings.

well they say that dreams are a replay of things we think of in our conscious state. so maybe next time before you go to sleep, you could say to yourself "I WANT TO DREAM IN BLACK AND WHITE" and repeat it over and over again...and who knows .
worth a try isn't it???

@ rosalie
eastman color is the color that movies were made of in the yesteryears rosalie. remember how they used to advertise"_____ film in eastman color" ?

i haven't yet seen the fil that you are talking about. maybe i should give it a try if i can lay my hands on it.
would love to experience the colors of that film myself sometimes.

thank you both for podting your views.

ps- btw, something more about my dreams...when i get woken up in the middle of my dreams sometimes...and go back to sleep again after sometime, the same dream that i was dreaming of before i had woken up continues...it continues from exactly where i had left it.lol.
ever experienced something like that????

We live in a colourful world - everywhere is colour. As far as I am concerned if I dreamt in black and white that would be totallyagainst the norm and I would remember. I dont remember when I dream in colour cos that is just normal

Are dreams a different realm? I tend to think whilst we can sometimes experience different realms in dreaming states, that the vast majority of dreams come directly from our own subconscious and since mine has colored input, it makes sense to me that it has colored output.

I do know a number of people tho that say they dream in black and white, and coincidentally they have all been older than me so I have often wondered if it might have any connection to them being born prior to TV going color in the early 70's (I wasn't) ... and that perhaps having visual input in that mode from an early age has impressed B&W footage upon their subconscious as a standard/ acceptable mode of viewing a footage type visual. Dunno, just rambling a thought I don?t know the answer to - tho Sibyl just kind of crushed that thought ...lol

Anyway, I am just one of those people who does recall dreaming almost every night, ... usually in extensive detail, and anywhere between 4-8 dreams on a "busy" night. With the one exception I mentioned they have always been color or extreme technicolor.

I do have a pretty good hit rate tho at influencing what I dream about (when I care to), so I am going to try your little experiment and see if I can influence how I dream it. Good suggestion, should be interesting, ... if I get a B&W, I'll let ya know

gees thanks nat..i suddenly feel like an antique piece for dreaming in B&W  going by your theory of televisions pre and post 70's as u put it. lol.
but hey...i am sure the world was as colourful back then as it is today (if not more) isn't it ?? your theory thus somehow doesn't gel completely i guess.
anyways..it would be really interesting to see if you managed to dream in B&W ...and more than that it would be all the more interesting if its one of your busy nights and out of the couple of dreams that you have half is in color and the rest in B&W...y'know the mix and match kind of thing.

trust i would be amongst the first to know.

keep on dreaming. like they say "those who dream the most do the most"....doesn't really matter whether its in color or B&W.
all the best

Lol, ... nah, I did not mean it like that - I am just little, ... and wondering something does not a theory make. Just a curious thought about what input anomaly might possibly have a connection, ... like I said tho - Sibyl crushed it before I even said it
