FLYING DREAM MEANING
NOTE FROM ADMIN: A number of visitors to the forum have asked about the meaning of dreams about flying. Please use this sticky dream meaning thread to add your dream question about flying dreamsSender says: Hi all! I understand that the "flying dream" is a common one, and to be lucid while flying is not too suprising. However, I'd like to share my dream and see if any one can share any insight or offer suggestions. Background: I'm a first-year high school science teacher who is having a hard time enjoying the profession -- first-year headaches, behavior problems from students, low-performing kids. I'm really asking myself if I really want to stay in the profession. I've convinced myself that I don't. It's not that I can't stick it out, but I don't believe I really want to stick it out. I'm having a hard time finding my nitch in life. If anyone is familiar with the Enneagram, I'm a Type 4, Romantic/Individualist, and I can get caught up in all the trappings of my type. I feel a need to express and create; I just don't know how. So, I've thought about writing, art, etc.. Well, last night, I woke up around 2:30 in the morning to see a television program about a Bishop Jordan, the Prophet of God, encouraging people to contact him for a work from the Lord. I was very skeptical, but, being overanalytical at times, I thought what if I was meant to see this at this particular time? So I went to his website and gave my information. It was after I did this that I had my dream. The dream started off that I was in a house that I was walking through. I don't remember the details of the house, but it was somewhat delapidated. As I was moving from room to room, I began to get a sense that the rooms would change on me -- and they did. I wanted to get out of the house, but I thought, I'm going to go to another room, and instead of going outdoors, I ended up going into another room. Rooms were just appearing, morphing into view. It was at this point I realized that I was dreaming, and I was finally able to get outside. I said to myself that I wanted to fly, and away I went. ZOOM! I was moving quickly, and as was expected, I was thrilled. Then I said, I want to go higher. But, I said it as if I was speaking to someone, as if I was asking for permission, and it was granted. Up I went, and the sky was unlike any I had ever seen. The clouds looked so celestial and grand. I remember hovering in the sky, making a 360. I looked around and said WOW! I remembered how amazed I was. It was at this point that I began to experience trepidation, and I wanted to come back down. Once I woke up, I thought to myself, I had ascended to heaven and I was afraid to fully experience it, and I wanted to go back. I'm hoping that I can. The sight was absolutely beautiful. The clouds seems to be living, rolling with wisdom and knowledge and there I was in the midst of it. I hope someone can shed some light. Take care, Marcus |

Hi there marcus
Some interesting symbology in this dream. Firstly the house. Dreams about houses are symbolic of self, what is happening inside the house is happening inside your head. Unknown rooms keep appearing in your house which indicates that you have unknown areas of self to be discovered and explored. Each new room indicates a different aspect of self for you to discover. The thing about change is that only you can make those decisions for yourself; you are the expert on your own life so no one can make those decisions for you. Change is scary, but knowing who you are and what you want is empowering, giving you the confidence to consciously and actively make those wants real. Hope this helps Bright Blessings

...and for a slightly different perspective
Houses are often symbolic of self. I would therefore think the dilapidation is a reflection of how you are feeling about your job and direction in life at the moment. Feeling that the rooms would change on you to me suggests you feel you are not in control of the situation you are finding yourself in. Not being able to get outdoors initially is suggestive of your feeling of being "caught within the trappings of your life" - as you put it. You were eventually able to get out tho, which is your deep knowing (even if in your subconscious only at this stage) that this feeling of being trapped need not be permanent, ... and I am not suggesting leaving your job is necessarily the answer, it may just mean adopting a different outlook or approaching the hurdles in a different manner. I think the person you were getting permission from to soar higher in flight was in fact yourself. At the heights the view is celestial and grand and this is the view you can have if you move yourself to a different perspective. Your mention of clouds rolling with wisdom and knowledge and your joy at being amongst it suggests to me that you do revel in teaching (being at the centre of knowledge and learning) so maybe you should take that as indicative that you are in fact following the right path for you. The trepidation would seem like that which you have for wondering if you can get on top of the situation. I hope you do get on top of it, coz whilst often seemingly thankless, I personally think teaching is the best job anyone could possibly have and if you ask just about anyone who the impactful people in their lives are/were, I'll bet ya more often than not a teacher will be amongst them. Good Luck

Thank you for the replies...I do agree that at some deep level, teaching is where I'm supposed to be, or at the very least among the celestial, rolliing clouds of wisdom and knowledge. The reason why I say so is because I believe I had a follow dream just last night where I was in a high school library among books you would not find in a high school library (at least not in my high school library anyways) -- the Medical College Admissions Test prep book, college astronomy texts, books on religion; in other words books that you would typically find in a university setting.
I do so enjoy reading about and discussing new ideas and sharing them with others. I just need to have the courage to do what it takes to do what I love. Thank you for the insight. Blessings Marcus |

I have throughout my life dreamt I could fly. In my dream all I need is a little "runway" to gain momentum and then I would soar up in the sky all I need to do is breast stroke through the air. It is always a pleasant, free dream and I have it at least twice a week even if I am so stressed I don't know what to do with myself.
Funny thing is I can only go as high as the highest tree and look down, but then I have to come back down and gain momentum again before I can raise up in the air. The dream always ends with me landing safely. |

Wow, that's amazing with reading your reply I just noticed that I also don't fly very fast. I wonder if the dream means perhaps that is a sense of freedom one is looking for in your real life?

I have flying dreams very offten. I feel like someone like a guide is always with me. But i have fallen in to the ocean and there are orca whales around me. I find most of my dreams of flying have alot to do with the ocean. Like flying over the ocean then swiming in the ocean with all kinds of sea creatures. I remember flying into a storm and the waves were huge and i was beaten by them and bashed untill i woke up. I have had flying dreams to get away from someone. Those dreams i cant fly very fast or i cant fly untill the last minute. I also find the dreams were i can fly all night long into space or over the sea are the mornings when i feel so tired.

Thats a cool dream, its an amazing experience. I once had a dream where I knew was a dream so I wanted to fly. I had to jump hard but I could fly and spin around. It was infront of my house. But in dreams where I know it is a dream I wake up soon. Its hard for me to stay in that dream once I know it.

I was reading some Freud the other day and guess what he thinks flying dreams are about - yep, wait for it, ...lol - sex. What else? ...lol I am seriously thinking the guy might have been a bit of nympho coz it seems that is his answer for everything. I'm gunna hunt him down and ask him about this when I get to the spirit world ... lol. He probably thinks a lasagne, a snail, and a peice of cardboard mean sex too ... lol. Strange guy imo.
